When it comes to the world’s best beaches, you’d probably expect to find them in far-flung destinations like Thailand, the Maldives or the Caribbean. All of these places are wonderful to visit, but are often once-in-a-lifetime holidays.
Yet there’s one beach which is in easy reach of Manchester that’s been named the best in the world. Playa de Muro is found on the northern coast of the Spanish island of Majorca in the Mediterranean.
It takes around two hours and 40 minutes to fly there direct from Manchester Airport. According to Skyscanner, there are flights available from Manchester Airport to Palma, Majorca in July from as little as £30, with return tickets available for a similar price.

Playa de Muro beach was named the most breathtaking beach in the world for natural wonders by boating experts Rightboat. They analysed more than 300,000 TripAdvisor reviews focusing on mentions relating to marine life, cleanliness, clear water and beauty, to find the top 15 beaches in the world.
The Blue Flag-awarded beach has white sand which stretches on for nearly four miles. It’s known for its calm, clear and shallow waters, so it’s perfect for families and a lovely spot to paddle in.
One visitor to beach wrote on Tripadvisor: “Best beach in the world!! It is heaven on earth…you can wade out for miles and it not be past your shoulders!!! We all loved it.” Another said: “Stunning! Such a beautiful beach! Clear waters, slight waves. One of the best beaches I have travelled to.”
Coming in second on the list is Spiaggia dei Conigli in Sicily, while Falassarna in Crete, Greece, came in third. Unfortunately no UK beaches made it into the list.
Playa de Muro is less than an hour’s drive away from the airport. There are dozens of accommodation options at Playa de Muro, catering for all budgets.
