The beloved cafe hidden behind a bookshop in Dublin city centre

If you've never stumbled across The Cake Cafe on Camden Street before, you won't be surprised to find out why.

Hidden behind The Last Bookshop is a lovely little oasis that acts as a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the area.

To reach The Cake Cafe, you first have to walk through the bookshop, then through a courtyard to reach the cafe where you will find delicious cakes and coffee.

The cafe's owner David told Dublin Live about people's responses when they initially discover something "pretty special".

He said: "It's always a surprise, the look on people's faces when they come through the door and they see it.

"For a cafe that's so small and hidden away, it's incredible how people find their way here. It's a little sanctuary."

Curious and hungry Dubs are welcome to stroll into the cafe, while other offerings here include afternoon tea, wedding cakes and party platters.

The eatery has a strong sustainability ethos, which is born out of the eco-friendly building they find themselves in.

David told us: "The building itself is one of the first eco-friendly developments in the whole of Dublin. It was developed specifically with conservation in mind.

"A lot of the rain water would be recycled, we use solar panels, and we operate on the same ethos as well. We try to go as little waste as possible."

He added: "Our space here used to be a print shop. A lot of Dublin people would remember it as the place where they got their wedding invitations printed, because there weren't a lot of places doing it at the time."

The Cake Cafe is located in The Daintree Building in Dublin 8 and is open from 10am until 5pm from Tuesday to Saturdays.
