The highly anticipated sequel to The Batman, titled The Batman Part II, has been rescheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026. This new release date marks a one-year delay from the film's original schedule. Warner Bros. made several adjustments to its release calendar, including pushing back Barry Levinson's gangster film Alto Nights from November 24 to March 21, 2025, and setting a late August 2025 release date for Paul Thomas Anderson's upcoming star-studded project.
The announcement of The Batman Part II was first made at CinemaCon in April 2022. Mattson Tomlin joined Matt Reeves as a co-writer in August of the same year, and in late January 2023, DC Studios executives James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the film's title and initial release date of October 3, 2025.
While DC Studios did not provide a specific reason for the delay, the original The Batman film was a commercial success, grossing $134 million domestically during its opening weekend and accumulating a global box office total of $770.3 million. The film not only launched a new franchise but also spawned spin-off projects, such as a HBO Max series centered around Colin Farrell's Penguin character and an Arkham Asylum-focused show developed by Reeves.
The star-studded cast of The Batman included Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Barry Keoghan as a mysterious Arkham Asylum inmate with ties to The Joker. Despite the delay of The Batman Part II, Warner Bros. has announced that Maggie Gyllenhaal's film The Bride! will now premiere on the original October 3, 2025 date.
As fans eagerly await the next installment in the Batman franchise, the studio's strategic reshuffling of release dates promises an exciting lineup of films to come in the near future.
