The Aviary: New bar set to open in former Omagh nightclub venue

A new bar and restaurant is set to open its doors in Omagh on Friday as The Aviary opens on the site of the former Vault nightclub in the town.

Set on the embankment of the Strule River, The Aviary will be a two floor venue hoping to add to the entertainment mix in the town in the coming years.

After an extensive refurbishment of the existing building, the venue will offer cocktails, live music and food.

Manager Michael McIvor says a lot of hard work has gone in to get the bar ready for opening.

“We’ve taken over what used to be The Vault and the Embankment down at the old Market Place in Omagh,” Michael told MyTyrone.

“That was its last incarnation, it used to be Tingles nightclub and before that it was the New Market and the Clock which a lot of people would have known it as.

“It was a nightclub and a downstairs bar, and we have completely gutted both floors and just made a two floor venue.

“We’re placing the emphasis on simple things - entertainment, good service, good drinks and good food.

“Our food menu will be starting in two weeks time as well.”

The new venture will see 20 new jobs being created in the town, with many local faces who have been involved with the hospitality industry in Omagh forming part of the team.

“The people involved have been in this game for a while, so we know what works and what doesn’t work.

“There’s a full team of staff there who are all local people.

“I’m from the town myself and I’ve spent all my social life around here so I know the town pretty well.

“We’re just looking forward to getting up and running now.”
