Police forces across the UK publish data showing the numbers and types of crimes reported in each area - including South Wales Police. According to the most recently released data, there were 3,647 crimes committed across Cardiff in June 2022.
Out of these crimes, 1,082 were classed as violence and sexual offences, 453 were classed as anti-social behaviour, 388 were public order and 554 were criminal damage and arson. As well as providing crime data for the whole city, Police UK also provides breakdowns of crimes committed in specific areas around the city.
For June 2022, Cathays had the most offences, with 637 being recorded. It's important to note that the Cathays area also covers the city centre. Of these, 168 were recorded as violence and sexual offences, 104 were shoplifting, 66 were bicycle theft, and 55 were anti-social behaviour - the top four recorded crimes for the area that month.

At the other end of the spectrum, however, was Lisvane, which only saw 10 crimes recorded for the same month. The most commonly reported crime for the area was public order, with four crimes recorded, violence and sexual offences, with three recorded, and anti-social behaviour and drugs, with one each recorded.
Crimes across Cardiff for June actually saw a decrease from the previous month, with 3,794 recorded for May 2022. Over the past year, according to the Police UK data, the most recorded crimes occurred in October 2021, with 4,063 being recorded for that month.
