The Apprentice winners had romance behind Lord Sugar's back after split from footballer

Lord Sugar may be in control of what goes on in the boardroom - but the bedroom is another matter.

It's fairly standard practice for some of the contestants on each year's The Apprentice to get very cosy during filming - even though they are supposedly banned from having romances.

Lord Sugar may have eyes and ears everywhere in the form of trusted aides Claude Littner and Karren Brady, but one thing he probably didn't see coming was two of his winners starting a relationship.

Victors Dr Leah Totten and Mark Wright decided to hire each other as love interests.

Northern Irish GP Leah saw off stiff competition from Celebrity Big Brother star Luisa Zissman to secure Lord Sugar's £250,000 investment in 2013.

While Australian-born Mark, not to be confused with The Only Way Is Essex star of the same name, took the crown the following year.

The beauty clinic owner and internet marketing expert started dating in 2015 and they were spotted cosying up at a cocktail bar in December that year.

At the time, a source said: "It’s really sweet. They’re only in the early days of their romance but Mark has been sending Leah lots of gifts, and so far the two of them have really hit it off.

"They’re both highly motivated, successful people. That was one reason they’ve found each other so attractive. They both have offices in the business district of East London and see each other a lot."

Aussie Mark, who launched digital marketing firm Climb Online after winning the show, split from long-term girlfriend Spencer two months before.

Mark has previously spoken of getting back with childhood sweetheart Spencer, who moved over from Australia to be near him, after three years apart.

"I’ve known Spencer since I was 19, when we were living in Australia. I was her boss and we got together.

"But I decided I wanted to go backpacking, so we’ve been apart for the past three years. I was so young when we met.

"But recently we realised we miss each other so she has just moved over here to live with me, and we’ve properly rekindled things. She’s the girl I’m meant to be with."

But their relationship did come to and end and it's believe Spencer moved back to Australia after the split.

While Leah, who launched Dr Leah Cosmetic Skin Clinic in East London after her win, separated from Premier League goalie Fraser Forster after he moved to Southampton the previous year.

They met in 2009, when she was studying medicine at the University of East Anglia and he was on loan to Norwich City.

In February 2014 she revealed they were giving it another go, having split before she went on The Apprentice, but they are thought to have separated later in the year.

Leah and Mark seemed to be smitten, but decided to keep the relationship quiet as they are nervous about what Lord Sugar would think.

The source added: "They are both very professional and they’re a bit worried that Lord Sugar won’t think two of his business partners dating is a good idea."

But they struggled to keep their romance going while having incredibly busy work schedules, which made it almost impossible to be together.

They announced their split in October 2016 - with Mark explaining the reasons why it didn't work out.

Mark said: "We are both incredibly driven people and, due to our busy schedules, the relationship just wasn’t working, so we decided to go our separate ways.

"Leah is a lovely girl, and we remain good friends."

Mark's current relationship status is unknown, but Leah has gone on to find love with a mystery man.

The 2013 Apprentice winner revealed she was engaged in October 2018, just hours before Lord Sugar unveiled the latest batch of business-obsessed hopefuls in that year's series.

Leah announced the news with a picture of her enormous diamond engagement ring worn proudly on the fourth finger of her left hand in a sweet tweet.

She wrote: "I am genuinely delighted to share the news that I am engaged! My fiancé is the most amazing man on the planet, I am beyond grateful to have him in my life and so excited to become his wife!"

But the doctor, who used her investment prize from The Apprentice to open a string of cosmetic surgery clinics, didn't mention one small detail about her engagement - her brand new fiance.

Even to this day, Leah's new man has managed to stay out of the limelight.
