The Apprentice fans shocked after double exit as one candidate fired minutes after another quits

The Apprentice viewers were left stunned on Thursday night after a double elimination saw Kevin D’Arcy and Shannon Martin both leave the competition.

Kevin, 32, was fired after finding himself on the losing team, while Shannon quit the show for personal reasons. It proved to be a nightmare episode for the boys team as they lost the bao bun challenge to the girls after a lacklustre sales performance.

Dublin-born accountant Kevin was fired from the show as Lord Sugar thought the blame of pricing the products too low was down to him.

The disaster task for the boys saw Lord Sugar's aide Tim Campbell step in when he thought their business plan was floundering. It didn't help that the food product wasn't up to par as the green bao buns were supposed to resemble dinosaurs, but did not look appetising.

As the boys were called back into the boardroom, Lord Sugar decided the key factor to the loss lay with Kevin and his pricing errors as he was fired from the show.

Despite being the second contestant to get the boot, the Irish entrepreneur admitted he enjoyed the overall experience of the show. “Overall, I think I met some amazing people," Kevin said.

"People I perhaps wouldn’t meet in my normal life, and I think being one of the slightly older contestants, it was interesting to meet some of the younger candidates and understand what they’re into and what their interests are.”

While the bun task was branded a disaster for the boys team, Kevin also looked back on how much "fun" selling their food was at the market.

"We had this thing when we steamed a new set of buns, we’d have a countdown ‘three, two one… fresh bao buns!’" the candidate laughed. "That stopped the entire market, and everyone would come over to see what was going on," the star recalled.

Shannon, meanwhile, decided to leave the competition because she realised that she didn't want to face the reality of having to leave her home and business behind in West Yorkshire.

The Apprentice airs every Thursday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm.
