The Apple Store is down. That can only mean new hardware is coming.

Apple might be adding some hardware to the WWDC 2022 menu. The Apple Store is currently down, just hours ahead of Apple’s WWDC 2022 keynote starting at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. ET today. The store page going down is usually a good indicator that we’re getting a hardware announcement, particularly since the Apple Store page has an image referencing WWDC and instructions to “check back after the event.”

Apple’s WWDC events are usually reserved for OS updates — and we are expecting updates to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS — but the company has teased and full-on announced hardware in past events. While there was no hardware mentioned during WWDC 2021, Apple announced that it was switching to its own silicon at WWDC 2020 and debuted the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR during WWDC 2019.

Redesigned MacBook Air —

For this year’s WWDC, our guess for a potential hardware reveal would be a new MacBook Air. There’s a chance we see next-gen Apple M2 silicon as well with the redesigned MacBook Air.

The rumors also describe a redesigned MacBook Air with thinner screen bezels, a new keyboard, and the return of the MagSafe charging port like on the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros. We were hoping for some colorful options for the MacBook Air, like the seven choices seen with the 24-inch iMac, but that doesn’t seem to the case. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, we may be only getting the new MacBook Air in four colors: space gray, silver, a “champagne-like” gold, and blue.

To be announced —

There’s even a chance that we see a refreshed Mac Pro that’s powered by Apple silicon, too. As it stands, we’re only hours away from seeing what wishlist items Apple comes through on and what we’ll have to keep waiting for.
