The app that shows you which Wetherspoons have the cheapest drinks across Scotland

With money getting tighter and bills continuing to rise, justifying life's little comforts such as a night out with friends or an after-work pint is getting harder. So, any way to save money on a wee drink is always welcome.

A new app is aiming to help people find the cheapest drinks prices in their areas, to help as the cost of living crisis continues to bite. Food advice website Pantry & Larder says it has pulled together more than 16,000 drinks prices from every Wetherspoons pub across the UK.

Using these findings, it has created a handy interactive map which displays how to find the cheapest prices for some Scottish pub staples across the country.

Perhaps frustratingly it shows the price of a pint of Carling instead of Scottish lager Tennent's, but it also covers most other drinks you'll find in most Scottish pubs.

Using the app you can find out the cheapest prices for pints such as Budweiser, Guinness and Punk IPA, as well as select spirits, wines and cocktails.

A pint of Guinness will cost you just £2.29 in the Kirky Puffer in Kirkintilloch, while a single Jack Daniels and mixer will cost you £3.35 in the Salt Cot in Saltcoats compared to £6.15 in Sir Walter Scott in Edinburgh Airport.

Speaking about the app, Veronica Fletcher of Pantry & Larder told My London : "Drink prices vary massively across the UK. And it's not just as simple as London being more expensive than the rest of the UK.

"For example, a bottle of Prosecco at my local costs £16.39. Less than three miles away, the exact same drink is 39% cheaper. Interestingly, certain drinks such as Camden Hells lager are significantly cheaper in Scotland."

Drinks prices were collected from the Wetherspoons mobile ordering app and were correct as of September 5, according to Pantry & Larder.
