Apple iPhone users will be rushing to update to the newest version of Apple’s operating system, iOS 16. The software launched last night (Monday, September 12) and users have been sharing their favourite new features online throughout the day.
One major update is adding even more personalisation like widgets and custom colours to the lock screen. Moving notifications to the bottom of the screen has divided fans but most are enjoying the new features from Apple's latest software.
The overhaul of the lock screen gives depth to images but this has created a quirk in the settings meaning users can no longer update their home screen easily. Instead, they now must go through the process of changing the lock screen in order to change their home screen on their iPhone.

Apple will now let you save pre-set lock and home screen combinations which you can switch between whenever you want with minimal effort. When creating a new one of these, iOS 16 automatically sets the same photo on both screens.
Users can then customise their home screen after saving their lock screen preferences by clicking ‘done’ and ‘customise home screen’. This differs from the system customers are used to which allows them to choose whether they are changing the lock screen or home screen directly through the photos app.
In iOS 16, any photo selected to be a wallpaper through the photos app is automatically put as the lock screen. This means that users can only change their home screen through their lock screen or through their settings, not by choosing a photo first.
While this is not a major issue, it is a small quirk which reduces the ease of use for customers. The system before meant changes when customers wanted to refresh their screen were quick, but now they must go through several settings before they can add a new picture.
Changing between screen pairings does not change the order of apps or widgets on users' home screens. This means those who use invisible or customised widgets won’t be able to easily switch between their pre-set screens without redoing their entire home screen.
For those who like to switch up their screens regularly, they may want to spend time to stack some selections or they could find themselves spending more time than ever before customising their home screen.
