Not much has changed for the over one lakh voters who live in Asia’s largest unauthorised colony Sangam Vihar. The area continues to struggle with basic civic issues – such as overflowing drains, poor sanitation, inadequate water supply, and unsafe roads – as well as rising incidents of crime. This is despite two consecutive poll victories to AAP’s Dinesh Mohaniya, and visits and assurances by officials, including Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and the Delhi chief secretary.
“Leave Paris, make it Delhi at least,” said Mukesh Gupta, a local, while referring to former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s 2019 remarks about making the national capital like London and Paris.
“No one cares. They only come during elections. Whoever comes just exchanges garlands,” said Sunil, another resident.
Newslaundry spoke to voters in Sangam Vihar to understand the issues that matter the most, and what they think of the official track record in the area.
