The advice Kyle Walker gave Kyle Walker-Peters before Man City move

Kyle Walker gave Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters some useful advice before joining Manchester City in 2017.

The two men were teammates at Tottenham Hotspur before Walker decided to make the move up to the North West. At that time Walker-Peters was an academy graduate looking to break into the Spurs team.

Since then, Walker-Peters has made his own move away from North London. The 24-year-old has been an almost ever-present at St Mary's this season and he scored against Walker's City back in January during a 1-1 draw.

Speaking to Football.London five years ago, Walker-Peters explained the advice which Walker gave him before moving on. The then-teenager explained: "There's a big opportunity now that Kyle Walker has gone.

"I'm trying to show that I can be second in line - these are the games to do that out here, and back at the training ground. I want to show the manager I'm ready, I want to show him he can trust me in big games if he needs to."

"They've (Walker and Kieran Trippier) given me advice," Walker-Peters continued. "A lot of it is they're telling me to talk a lot more on the pitch, be a lot more vocal, get your winger to help you out.

"Seeing them in training, watching their crossing. Obviously, Kieran Trippier is very good at crossing, Kyle is very strong.

"So seeing them on the training pitch, I've learnt like that. There are a lot of things I want to improve on.

"I want to get stronger, I want to keep getting faster, I want to work on my crossing. Josh [Onomah] has told me that the intensity is a lot higher [in the first team].

"People are a lot more physical etc. I'll only get used to that by playing in these games and hopefully I'll get more opportunities and get better."

Walker will be hoping that his advice does not come back to bite him on Sunday. City travel to Southampton looking for a victory which would seal their place in the FA Cup semi-Ffinals while keeping their hopes of a famous treble alive.
