A popular bar in Glasgow city centre has announced its shock closure after developers submitted plans to turn it into a café.
The Admiral Bar will be closing for the final time next month in what bosses have described as a 'difficult and traumatic time'.
The venue has been a popular feature of Waterloo Street for 60 years, playing host to live music, club events, and private functions. It is now being forced to close despite being "successful and solvent".

Posting on social media, bosses announced that March 11 would be their final opening due to "site redevelopment".
The announcement goes on to say: "We thank you, the public, the promoters, the event organisers, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY OUR MAGNIFICENT STAFF for all your support through these years. The Admiral has been unique a Community in the city centre. Details of our Closing week parties and future plans to follow”
"I had hoped to have more time to contact a number of Friends & Djs etc. directly, And to be able to confirm future plans, it appears someone jumped the gun with their presser.
"I'd appreciate unless directly affected a bit of space, this has been a difficult and traumatic time for those directly impacted. Closing a business is one thing, closing a successful, solvent and iconic institution has been another.
"This is merely Au Revoir."
Developers have submitted plans to demolish part of the building in which The Admiral stands with a view to creating an office block with a café and restaurant on the ground floor.
Designs that have been drawn up in relation to the building show the bar replaced with a glass-fronted eatery.
The plans are still pending official approval by Glasgow City Council.
Hundreds of people have shared messages of support with the venue since the closure was announced on Saturday morning.
Among the well-wishers was comedian Gary Faulds who said: "Gutted for you all. Absolutely loved doing gigs in this pub. Especially work in progress as the atmosphere was always brilliant. Take care & thank you for the performance space."
Another added: "Terrible news. Loved going to the Admiral under all management but you guys really breathed life into this venue. It was wonderful to have my wedding party there in September. You looked after us all so well. Definitely will be in for a last night of drinks."
One customer added: "That's gutting news. You do leave an amazing legacy of supporting music through gigs, new artists, club nights, DJs and your generosity in supporting charities too. Good luck for next venture."
The Admiral will be open as usual until March 11 with customers urged to book and make it "the busiest and best ever".
