The Adidas Adilette 22 slides are every bit as good as Yeezy’s

You can never have too many pairs of slides, and Adidas knows it. After interest in its newest Adilette 22 slides caused the first couple of pairs to sell out just as quickly as they appeared, the Three Stripes is revealing a second round of colors for the 3D-printed sandals.

It’s a beauty —

While you could make the case for them being akin to Yeezy’s, the slides are unique enough to stand on their own. The shoe’s aesthetic strays from Adidas’s existing range of slides, which tend to be decked with the brand’s traditional long striped branding, and opts for something more utilitarian and Yeezy-like. Instead of a sporty construction and obvious Adidas logos, the exterior features terrace-like sculpting that makes it a weird, but hot, statement shoe.

While the first releases reached for dark sage green and cream color schemes, the upcoming pairs will appear in more neutral palettes. The first appears in a dark gray, paired with another option in light beige. Similar to the prior green-and-tan combo, the third slide in the collection swirls the black and beige shades for a marbled look.

According to Adidas, the slides are made with natural and renewable materials. On the original product page for the slides, which is no longer live, the brand said: “These adidas Adilette Slides answer the question, ‘What would slides look like in space?’ 3-D printed and inspired by human expeditions to Mars, they defy gravity with futuristic design details.”

A new era for comfy footwear —

While the slides don’t literally float or defy gravity, they are lightweight. The exterior is carved with ridges to mimic the Marsian landscape, and to finish off the design, “THE BRAND WITH THE THREE STRIPES” is printed near the heel. Thanks to Kanye West’s Yeezy imprint, Adidas appears to be tuning into the neutral/minimal vibe for its footwear. Perhaps it even took some inspiration from Salehe Bembury’s wildly popular Pollex Crocs, playing with ridges and texture for its offering.

An official release of the Adilette 22 is set to hit the Adidas website on June 23. Even though they’re technically the most expensive Adilette the brand has listed on its website, the $55 slides are still affordable if you can get them retail. Be aware that resale is reaching $200 for some sizes, but the overall resell value is still balanced enough for you to cop (and wear) a pair with ease.
