The add-ons Ryanair will charge you for - from your suitcase to oxygen

Ryanair offers some of the hardest-to-beat fares. At the moment, its summer breaks to Spanish islands, like Fuerteventura, can cost as little as £21.99 to return from Newcastle.

The budget airline is perfect for the most frugal of travellers. But the cheapest fares often come with the fewest perks.

You can expect to wait the longest, board last and disembark last and there’s no chance of you being sat next to your friends or family when you fly. However, that doesn’t mean they’re not possible as Ryanair permits passengers to pay to add on the extras that they need, here’s a list of the kind of things you can expect.

Baggage

This is the most obvious option when it comes to flying. The cheapest, most basic Ryanair flights come with a small personal item included, which means your handbag or small backpack is covered, but anything larger and they’ll be asking for your credit card.

These prices are per flight, not per journey, and are priced at the time of booking. For late additions or extras added on at the airport, expect to pay a larger fee.

For those who prefer to avoid online check-in and simply check in at the airport, then Ryanair will charge you a hefty £50. They’ll also bill you £20 to reissue your boarding pass, which includes if you check in online but don’t print your boarding pass.

If you need to change your flight booking, it’ll cost you £45 to do it online or £60 with an agent at the airport. While changing the name on your booking will come at the hefty price of £115.

If you miss your flight and want to get onto the next one, Ryanair may charge you £100. They will also add a £50 booking fee onto any flight bookings made with an agent in-person at the airport.

Perhaps one of the most confusing fees, the budget airline charges £55 for something it calls a “therapeutic oxygen reservation fee”. This extra cost is for those who need therapeutic oxygen for medical reasons as they are not permitted to bring their own onboard the flight for safety reasons.

Once you’re on board and in the air, the charges don’t stop as there’s no food or drink included in the price of your airfare. That’s all to be added when the cabin crew wheel the trolley down the middle aisle.
