Sitting within the small village of Dunmore in Falkirk is an abandoned and now-derelict mansion that some believe to be haunted.
Dunmore Park House is located in Dunmore Park, also known as the estate of the Earls of Dunmore. Keen-eyed Outlander fans may recognise it as a filming location for the television series. The derelict mansions stood in as the field hospital in the very first episode, where protagonist Claire Fraser treated wounded soldiers as a war nurse.
Owing to its sad history and unsettling atmosphere, some believe the ruins of Dunmore Park House to be haunted. One ghost hunter has even claimed they heard a voice during their trip to the estate.
Its fascinating history begins with the 5th Earl of Dunmore, George Murray, who commissioned architect William Wilkins to build a stately home, which was constructed between 1820 and 1825. Once completed, Dunmore Park House was a grand and impressive ancestral home. The Murray family continued to live on the estate all the way through to 1911.
Following this, Dunmore Park House remained in use as a private home up until 1961. After this, the property was converted into a girls' boarding school, before being abandoned in 1964.

Following years of decline, the estate was divided up and auctioned off. Sections of the house were demolished in 1972 due to safety concerns, with the rest left as a ruin despite plans to demolish the entire property in 1987.
Since then, there have been multiple attempts to develop the site and give it new life, including proposals to build a hotel, an apartment complex, and a golf course. None of these bids have been successful, however, and so the once-grand estate continues to lie in a state of decay.
Among the few sections of the property that are reasonably well-preserved are the wine cellars that include large stone and brick compartments that once would have housed countless bottles of wine. Today, however, their creepy appearance brings to mind a mausoleum.
