The Aaron Mooy Celtic 'surprise' factor as Ange Postecoglou must take credit for 'remarkable' role

Celtic fans may have been 'surprised' by the electric form of Aaron Mooy but it was always going to be a success because he's playing under Ange Postecoglou.

That is the view of former Hibs hitman Tam McManus who says the Australian boss' ability to uncover smart signings has been proved exponentially by the arrival of Mooy. Since the World Cup the former St Mirren man has been a revelation for the league leaders after a tough start to life in Glasgow.

The 32-year-old has dominated the Celtic midfield with two goals and two assists in his last four games including a sweet lob in the Hoops' 4-1 win over St Johnstone on Sunday. But the Australian - whose signing came somewhat under the radar - has taken major confidence from playing under Postecoglou again according to McManus.

He told Football Insider: “I have been surprised by his role at the club. He came in, obviously he knew the manager from the national team and Ange rarely gets transfers wrong, so we should have known.

“It’s so hard to get into that Celtic midfield as well, there is so much quality there. So maybe you think Mooy is only going to make a few cameos, maybe the odd start in the cup.

“But he has been brilliant recently. I didn’t think I would be seeing him this prolific in front of goal as well, that’s been the remarkable thing. You just hope he can keep it going, there is no reason why he can’t. He has been one of their signings of the season.

“He’s a great role model for the younger players as well, great move all around.”
