The 77 medical conditions that could qualify you for the £150 cost of living payment

Millions of people are set to start getting a £150 cost of living payment into their accounts from this week. The Department for Work and Pensions is giving the money to people claiming certain disability benefits.

The payment is set to land in recipients' account automatically over a two-week period between June 20 and July 4. It follows the similar £150 payment that was paid to disabled claimants in September last year.

The money is being given to those who claim certain disability benefits, which have a list of common conditions. If you have one of those and claim that benefit, you will be eligible for the £150 payment. Here is everything you need to know about it. Which benefits qualify for the payment?

The full list of benefit recipients that qualify for the disability cost of living payment are those who receive:

  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Constant Attendance Allowance
  • War Pension Mobility Supplement

When do I have to have been getting the payments?

To be eligible you must have received a payment (or later receive a payment) of one of these qualifying benefits by April 1, 2023 to get the payment. For those who were awaiting confirmation of their entitlement to disability benefits on April 1 or who are waiting to be assessed for eligibility to receive disability benefits, the process may take longer but you still get it automatically.

Which health conditions qualify for the payment?

Below is a list of conditions that currently qualify you for personal independence payments and attendance allowance, the latter of which is replacing disability living allowance and has the same list of qualifying conditions according to the DWP. The department does not publish qualifying conditions for the other benefits, but if you receive any of those you will be eligible for the payment.

Here are the qualifying personal independence payment conditions and how many people claimed as of January 2023;

  • Haematological disease - 7,577
  • Infectious disease - 10,970
  • Malignant disease - 100,968
  • Metabolic disease - 4,786
  • Psychiatric disorders - 1,207,278
  • Neurological disease - 412,289
  • Visual disease - 57,231
  • Hearing disorders - 34,425
  • Cardiovascular disease - 83,630
  • Gastrointestinal disease - 29,050
  • Diseases of the liver, gallbladder, biliary tract -11,772
  • Skin disease - 21,390
  • Musculoskeletal disease (general) - 650,393
  • Musculoskeletal disease (regional) - 387,555
  • Autoimmune disease (connective tissue disorders) - 18,032
  • Genitourinary disease - 24,788
  • Endocrine disease - 43,313
  • Respiratory disease - 136,839
  • Multisystem and extremes of age - 1,239
  • Diseases of the immune system - 1,083
  • Unknown or missing - 10,553

According to the DWP's official guidance, these are the main medical conditions that could qualify you for attendance allowance. They are as follows:

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Traumatic paraplegia/tetraplegia
  • Major trauma other than traumatic paraplegia/tetraplegia
