As tedious as it is, cleaning the oven regularly is something we should never forget to do.
Over time, burnt food, grease and spillages can continue building up, making it even more difficult to scrub when we do get around to it.
Although there are plenty of oven-cleaning kits out there that work pretty well, they can be quite expensive - but the Mirror reports that one cleaning pro has shared her ultimate cheap hack for getting your oven sparkling and it won't break the bank.
Speaking to the Express, Shirley Langridge, a professional appliance cleaning technician at Fantastic Services urges people to clean their oven with baking soda, as it's "one of the most famous and effective eco kitchen cleaning hacks".
"It not only helps neutralise foul odours, but it can be used to clean ovens, microwaves, and tile grout. It’s also inexpensive and universally available", Shirley said.
However, there may be a catch to this common household ingredient. It can lost its effectiveness if it's not stored properly, so Shirley advises that you shouldn't keep the box open and exposed.
Instead, keep it contained in a airtight box and store it in a cool, dry place.
For particularly stubborn oven stains, Shirley suggests teaming up your baking soda with another "wonder" ingredient that you probably already have in the house.
She siad: "Cleaning your oven overnight with baking soda and white vinegar is one of the most effective combinations when it comes to keeping your oven clean".
Explaining the process in detail, Shirley added: "Use a bit of water and mix it with the baking soda to create a paste. Rub the paste on the inside of your oven. Don’t forget the racks and the glass door too. Ensure everything is coated really well and let it sit overnight.
"The next day, the baking soda mixture should be completely dry. Fill an empty spray bottle with undiluted white vinegar and spray the inside of your oven really well. Close the oven door and let it sit".
One the cleaning mixture has been left to sit for around two hours, you should then pick up a sponge or cloth and rub it away in smooth, circular motions.
Shirley added "You’ll be surprised that all the grease is coming off easy. Rinse off the rag, and make sure all traces of the baking soda mixture are gone. However, if it’s been too long since you last cleaned your oven, you may have to repeat the procedure".
The winning combo of natural ingredients should help make your oven sparkling. White vinegar is having its moment in the cleaning world currently as many people have been using it as a home remedy for all sorts of jobs, including removing limescale from the shower.
While many people have praised the ingredient as a cleaning aid for decades, cleaning obsessives on TikTok are discovering that it can be used to clean all sorts of things within the home.
One woman was recently left gobsmacked after cleaning her shower head with white vinegar. The hack involved filling a plastic bag with the liquid and leaving your shower head in it all night.
The next morning, the woman revealed numerous particles floating around in the bag, showing how the vinegar broke down the hard scale build up in her shower.
