The year of Taylor Swift continues.
Her 2023 has been one for the record books for the music mogul as she launched her wildly popular Eras Tour, re-released two of her previous albums — Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — had a No. 1 movie in theaters with Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and generally boosted economies everywhere she went.
For that, the billion dollar songstress was named TIME Magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year.
With all the professional accomplishments Swift achieved over the year, she also started a new relationship with Kansas City tight end and two-time Super Bowl champ Travis Kelce.
The couple became America’s sweethearts, capturing the attention of not only Swifties, but NFL fans as well. Here are some of our favorite quotes from the TIME Magazine feature on the budding relationship.
Dads, Brads and Chads
“I’m just there to support Travis,” she says. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
Swift spoke on the awareness she has that she’s getting attention at the NFL games she’s been to, but that all of it is beyond her control. All she wants to do is support her boyfriend and watch the game.
A camera a half-mile away
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” she says. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the-camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”
Honestly, it is pretty impressive how quickly the NFL camera can find her.
Football is awesome
“Football is awesome, it turns out,” Swift says playfully. “I’ve been missing out my whole life.”
Although she’s spoken about supporting the Philadelphia Eagles before, we love new football fan Taylor.
The 'metal as hell' podcast mention
“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” she says.
Back in late July, Kelce discussed wanting to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it on his podcast New Heights with his brother, Jason. Now we know how Swift felt about it.
Confirmation of the start of the relationship
“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
Some fans have hypothesized that Kelce and Swift had been quietly dating long before the public knew, and she confirms that they took time to actually get to know each other before hard launching at Arrowhead Stadium on September 24 when the Chiefs played the Bears. Makes a lot more sense that date No. 1 didn’t involve Taylor Swift meeting Momma Kelce.
Public relationship
“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she says. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
Neither party has been shy in recent months of showing support for the other’s career. Swift has obviously been to many Chiefs games, but Kelce also spent his bye week down in Argentina taking in one of her Eras Tour shows in Buenos Aires.
