The 30 best personal trainers in London: For yoga, boxing, weights and running

Both starting and progressing in the gym or with a sport can feel tough. Which is where a personal trainer can step in — either as a one off, to set you up on a new programme, or to train you regularly and keep you on track.

But finding The One is a bit like dating: your personalities have to align and they need to bring out the best in you. You need someone who can push you to achieve your goal — whether that’s to touch your toes, do a pull up or run a marathon.

Fortunately in London we’ve got a huge range of talented PTs from diverse backgrounds and training disciplines. Don’t think you’ve got the budget for one? We’ve found some starting from £40 – the price of a couple of Pilates classes. These are the 30 best in London, who are highly qualified and come with countless recommendations from the fiterrati.

What should you look for in a great personal trainer?

Here's how to find the one who is your perfect match

  • Check out their qualifications — Level 3 Personal Training is a good base
  • Read up on their specialisms. For instance injury rehabilitation or pre or post-natal experience
  • See if your training style aligns with theirs: each PT, even generalists, have preferred ways of working. Don't end up with someone who does boxing drills to warm up, for instance, if you hate to box. Ask for recommendations
  • Have a consultation to see if your chemistry fits: if you see someone weekly, that ends up being a lot of time together, so make sure you click
  • See how empathetic they are — and how that fits your personality. Some people need a 'no excuses' gym bro; others need a bit more compassion
