A popular Aldi SpecialBuy has returned to the middle aisle and it’s a bargain alternative to a designer candle 16 times more expensive.
The re-released candle from Aldi’s Hotel Collection, No. 16 Oud and Bergamot, costs just £3.99 and has more than 100 five star ratings online.
Following its rave reviews, I picked up one of the candles in my local branch, found next to the honey and nectarine scented candle which has proved so popular, it’s already sold out online. But fear not, Oud and Bergamot is still available online, for now.

The candle comes in a matte grey container with a silver lid, described by the German retailer as ‘luxurious’ with a 50-hour burn time.
A candle-lovers dream, the medium sized candle has not one, but two wicks, which is much better for an even burn with no tunnelling. It means far less wax, and therefore fragrance and money, will go to waste.
Known for its low prices and dupe products, Aldi named the candle after the fragrances in it: Oud and Bergamot.
It’s the exact same name as a Jo Malone candle that carries a £62 price tag, meaning you could buy around 16 Aldi candles for the same price.
The packaging looks fairly minimalist and expensive, but the matte finish on the jar makes it prone to scuffs and knocks, unlike its pricier counterpart.

On lifting the lid, the woody scent is rich and intense, reminiscent of a high quality luxury aftershave.
One quality I did notice was that you don’t get that alcohol or chemical fragrance sharpness when you take a close whiff of these candles. They’re not overpowering, but when lit, they serve the room in which they’re in well.
They look very stylish, and as the resident of a mostly grey-decor home, it fits in very well.
Other shoppers also complimented the candle, describing them as ‘classy’.
One said: “Like JM (Jo Malone). Love this candle. Always stock up every time they’re in. Wish they were out all the time.”
Another added: “Have bought these many times. Stocked up on x6 as they’re not always in stock. Lovely smell & look classy. Love ALDI candles.”
A third commented: “Best Aldi candle, please restock and have in store more often. Such a sexy sophisticated slightly masculine scent.”
You can shop the Aldi Oud and Bergamot candles on the Aldi website.
