The £28.07 Asda Smart Price shop that's causing such a stir amid cost of living crisis

Reducing our outgoings is a hot topic at the moment, not least our rising food bills.

So it's no surprise that a £28.07 Asda shop is causing such a stir.

A photo of some of the products from Asda's full Smart Price range has been shared online after the retailer extended its budget Smart Price and Farm Stores ranges into all stores.

The move, which comes after food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe highlighted the lack of availability of budget products, means that all 200 products are available in 581 stores as well as online.

Customer Gary Oakley tweeted a photograph from one Asda store today, Thursday, where staff have displayed some of the range. "Well done @BootstrapCook (Jack) - love to see this," he said.

The photo, which has been liked hundreds of times, shows everything from tins, jars and rice, to sauces, cordials and cleaning products.

Jack swiftly responded with: "Eyyyyyy what store is this? LOVE this!".

She said if it wasn't four hours away, she'd 'go and stand in front of it and feel all pleased'.

Not everyone has been full of praise for the products though, with many questioning the nutrition and asking what meals you could actually make.

"Great that it's cheap, but it's not especially healthy. It's no wonder that things like malnutrition, obesity & diabetes are so endemic if this is offered up as a solution to price hikes," said Barsha Foxman @BarshaFoxman.

While Christine Millar @MillarHandbags said: "I do think this is helpful but I still want to see healthy options. Milk, bread, cheese, eggs. No child suffered malnutrition from a lack of chocolate."

The display is however just a small sample of what is available in the range. You can get eggs - a 15 pack in fact - for just £1.18 and you can get a whopping 825g block of mild white cheddar for £3.65.

Our Manchester Family knows only too well what meals can be made after eating nothing but Smart Price and Farm Stores products for a week.

We were able to buy breakfast, dinner and tea for a family of four for less than £50 for the week, with snacks and puddings thrown in too. It was even enough to make a big breakfast and a Sunday dinner.
