The 2025 NFL draft offers murky outlook for finding the next franchise QB

As the Cleveland Browns find themselves back in the market for a franchise quarterback after the failed Deshaun Watson experience, they could turn to the 2025 NFL draft.

If so, how could this class play out?

Daft on Draft ranked this quarterback class into Week 9 of the 2024 season, and the tiers of how the class has been broken down is quite interesting.

Only one quarterback is in the top tier of the class: Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. Miami’s Cam Ward has fallen into the second tier, titled “Top-end tools but needs time.” In tier three are three toolsy underclassmen who might benefit more from a return to school for their senior year: Penn State and Medina’s own Drew Allar, Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe.

In the backup/spot-starter tier fall the plummeting Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, and the star of the Indiana Hoosiers Kurtis Rourke. Texas’ Quinn Ewers has fallen way down the board and into the fifth tier.

So in the opinion of Daft on Draft, this is a one quarterback class, and if the Browns cannot get their hands on Sanders, it’s probably best off punting on a quarterback until 2026.
