The 20 Best-Selling Cars of 2024

The dust has settled, and it turns out 2024 wasn’t so bad for automakers after all. At least, from a sales perspective in the United States. Nearly every major automaker finished the year in positive territory, though, some models definitely sold better than others.

Perusing the official spreadsheets and press announcements, we’ve tabulated the 20 best-selling vehicles for 2024. It takes a minimum of 162,000 units sold to make the cut, and you’ll find a few sedans and hatchbacks among the ever-expanding sea of SUVs. Most of the familiar players are present and accounted for, though there have been some shakeups near the top. Spoiler alert for Ram fans—this countdown won’t be pretty.

Without further ado, here are the best sellers of 2024, from worst to best.

20. Subaru Forester: 175,521 Units

The Subaru Forester is the second SUV from the brand to make this list. Sales were up 15.1 percent last year compared to 152,566 in 2023. Subaru introduced an updated Forester for 2025 that began arriving at dealers earlier this year, and it remains one of the brand’s best-selling vehicles of all time. Subaru refined the chassis and added revamped bodywork to signal the changes while carrying over the 2.5-liter flat-four engine for another generation.

19. Subaru Crosstrek: 181,811 Units

Last year, the Outback was the only Subaru to make this list. Now the brand's cheapest crossover joins in. Crosstrek sales jumped 14.2 percent last year, with Subaru selling about 22,000 more crossovers in 2024 than in 2023. The automaker introduced the new-for-2024 Wilderness trim with extra cladding and 9.3 inches of ground clearance, featuring the upgraded 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that made 182 horsepower.

18. Tesla Model 3: 189,903 Units (est.)

Even though Tesla doesn't provide official annual sales data, Cox Automotive estimates that the EV maker sold 189,903 examples of the Model 3 sedan in 2024. That puts the EV into the top 20, but it marks a slight decrease from the previous year. Tesla sold an estimated 213,000 examples of the Model 3 in 2023.

17. Toyota Tacoma: 192,813 Units

Tacoma sales fell in 2024, tumbling 17.9 percent. The popular pickup had slow sales at the start of the year due to the rollout of the all-new 2024 model, with them picking up mid-year. However, not enough buyers flocked to the new truck in the second half to make up the difference, finishing 16th on this list. It finished 11th in 2023, with 234,7686 Tacomas sold. Toyota revamped the truck for 2024 with an all-new design, a hybrid powertrain option, and a new rugged Trailhunter trim with all the off-road goodies you’d expect.

16. Ford Explorer: 194,094 Units

Ford’s second-best-selling vehicle was up a tad in 2024, 3.9 percent to be specific. A facelifted version of the Explorer debuted early in the year, bringing notable revisions to the face and some extra tech inside. That didn’t appear to help sales though, as the SUV was down slightly in the fourth quarter compared to 2023.

15. Chevrolet Trax: 200,689 Units

The Chevrolet Trax making this list further proves consumers want more affordable cars. The Trax, number two on our list of cheapest cars for 2024, saw its sales jump 84 percent in 2024. The stylish subcompact, which received a significant overhaul in 2022, comes with a turbocharged 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine making 137 horsepower. Chevy sold 109,382 Traxs in 2023.

14. Hyundai Tucson: 206,126 Units

The Hyundai Tucson is the only vehicle from Korea to crack the top 20. However, after a 20 percent jump in 2023 from 2022, Tucson sales fell two percent in 2024. The crossover underwent a significant redesign at the end of 2023, but Hyundai only sold 206,126 examples last year compared to 209,624 the year prior.

13. Chevrolet Equinox: 207,730 Units

Chevrolet’s popular crossover didn’t see its sales increase in 2024. Instead, they fell 2.3 percent from 212,701 units in 2023. The Equinox was old, with Chevy readying a completely redesigned example for 2025. The crossover retains a competitive price while receiving a major design makeover and even more technology and safety features. It should remain the brand’s best-selling crossover into the new year.

12. Jeep Grand Cherokee: 216,148 Units

While Jeep had an abysmal sales year, the Grand Cherokee still made the list despite the SUV’s falling numbers. Sales dropped 12 percent compared to 2023, when the brand sold 244,595 examples. The current-generation Grand Cherokee, which received a major overhaul, is only a few years old, with the brand adding a three-row option to broaden its appeal. However, sales for the entire Jeep brand were down 6 percent for the year.

11. Toyota Corolla: 232,908 Units

Sales of small, cheap cars exploded in 2024. And among them, there is perhaps no greater car than the humble Toyota Corolla. With a starting price of $23,460, it’s less than half the price of an average new car, while delivering the no-nonsense efficiency and reliability we’ve all come to expect from the brand. Available in sedan or hatchback body styles, there’s a shape for virtually anyone. And if you want even more efficiency, there’s a hybrid version that can return up to 53 miles per gallon on the highway. No matter which trim you go for, you’ll be spending under 30 grand.

10. Honda Civic: 242,005 Units

The Honda Accord had a rocky sales year, down 17 percent compared to 2023. Its smaller sibling, the Civic, didn’t have that problem. It’s up 20 percent in 2024, with Honda selling nearly a quarter-million units. We’re not entirely surprised. The Civic is an excellent value proposition, delivering a charming driving experience for an incredibly reasonable price—something that’s becoming rarer as time goes on. We deemed the Hybrid model the best car of 2024 thanks to its incredible ability to sip fuel and deliver smiles at the same time.

9. Nissan Rogue: 245,724 Units

Nissan is having some financial troubles, but the Rogue continues to be a bright spot on the company’s ledger. With a starting price of around $30,000, it’s a stylish choice for buyers on a tighter budget and now there’s a new Rock Creek Edition to add some visual pizzazz to the lineup. Nissan is hoping that will bring more buyers into showrooms, especially since Rogue sales were down 9.5 percent last year.

8. Toyota Camry: 309,876 Units

We’ve arrived at the second mid-size sedan on this list. The Camry continues to defy the odds, finishing 2024 above 300,000 units sold. That’s a year-over-year increase of 3.0 percent, an impressive feat when you consider 2024 was a changeover year. The 2025 model went on sale midway through the year, still sneaking in with a starting price of just under $30,000. It’s comfortable for five adults, looks good, and gets great fuel mileage. It’s no surprise that buyers still love it.

7. GMC Sierra: 322,946 Units

GMC trucks had a great year. The mid-size Canyon was up 70 percent, though its 38,215 sales are still well below its big-brother Sierra, which jumped 9.8 percent. It’s arguably a better-looking truck compared to the Silverado, though you’ll find the same bones beneath the skin. It’s also a tad more expensive, starting at $42,290 for a single-cab, two-wheel drive Pro trim with an automatic transmission and little else.

6. Tesla Model Y: 372,613 Units (est.)

Tesla doesn’t officially break out sales for the US, but estimates from Cox Automotive have the Model Y securely in the sixth position. The electric crossover was the world’s best-selling vehicle in 2023, and though Tesla’s overall global sales declined slightly through 2024, it’s expected to retain that position at the top. Largely unchanged since its launch in 2019, a refreshed Model Y should debut later this year.

5. Ram Pickup: 373,120 Units

For the first time in recent memory, Ram has fallen from the top five. Sales for the full-size pickup truck fell 16 percent, suggesting customers aren’t happy with the modest mid-cycle refresh. Of course, the big news from the refresh is the elimination of the Hemi V-8 from the lineup. From a power standpoint, the twin-turbocharged Hurricane I-6 beats the Hemi, but peruse any social media post for the pickup, and you’ll see the pushback Ram is facing. With Carlos Tavares now out of the picture, will a V-8 option return?

4. Honda CR-V: 402,791 Units

Toyota isn’t the only Japanese brand having a banger year. The CR-V took a giant leap into the top five thanks to an 11.4-percent sales increase, cracking the 400,000 mark in the process. Honda’s best-selling vehicle, the CR-V launched its sixth generation for the 2023 model year and it seems buyers love the conservative styling. Stay light on the options and you can get a new one starting just over $30,000, but a decked-out Sport Touring Hybrid creeps up on $50,000.

3. Toyota RAV4: 475,193 Units

Retaining its top-three finish from 2023, the RAV4 is officially the best-selling SUV in America once again. And it shows no signs of slowing, with a year-over-year sales increase of 9.3 percent. That’s very impressive considering a next-generation model is expected to debut soon. The current RAV4 has been around since 2019 and has existed largely unchanged since then, save for some new trim levels. And with 13 trims currently offered (including two plug-in hybrids), buyers have all kinds of choices.

2. Chevrolet Silverado: 542,517 Units

Technically speaking, the Silverado also finished 2024 on a positive note. Just barely though—sales were up by less than 1 percent. The bow tie pickup was refreshed for the 2022 model year, though under the skin the truck is still an old-school powerhouse with 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter pushrod V-8 engines shouldering much of the load. New hybrid powertrains could be coming soon, but for now, Silverado remains comfortably in second place behind Ford.

1. F-Series: 765,649 Units

This shouldn’t be a surprise. Ford’s stalwart F-Series has been America’s best-selling vehicle since the Stone Age, and sales improved slightly in 2024 to finish the year up 2.0 percent. A strong fourth-quarter push gave the F-Series a positive year, something that was previously in doubt as sales were down slightly through much of 2024. The F-150 received a mid-cycle refresh that tweaked the face ever-so-slightly, and the Super Duty entered a new generation for the 2023 model year. Those updates appear to be paying off.

Update: This story has been updated with more accurate sales data for the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y, per Cox Automotive.
