Michael Beale referenced the improvements made at Rangers under Steven Gerrard as the former England and Liverpool captain used the high standards he was used to during a career at the very top to ensure the Ibrox club raised their game off the park.
From the players’ eating areas to the decor at the training centre, Gerrard’s impact was clear to those who had visited Auchenhowie before and after his appointment. And Beale can bank on further upgrades after he was given a tour of his new workplace by sporting director Ross Wilson.
It was captured on Rangers TV with Wilson heard saying: “The next thing that is happening here. Two things. There is a new camera system coming in from tomorrow. One of those where you can watch sit at your desk and watch training and stuff. Then pitch lights, heat lamps are coming in any week now.” Beale seemed to be impressed and as he was shown the manager’s office it appears that had also been spruced up in the year since his departure as he takes over the hot-seat from Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The Englishman said: “Oh, wow. It has been changed up, hasn't it? Class!"
At his unveiling, Beale said of his time with Gerrard: "Behind the scenes we redeveloped and created a lot of Ibrox and the training ground, which was fantastic coming back into and it’s kicked on another notch."
