Frontman of Manchester-formed The 1975, Matty Healy, has taken a swipe at the Gallagher brothers in an interview, telling them to ‘grow up’ and ‘get back together’. The ‘Chocolate’ singer asked ‘what are Oasis doing?’ during a recent interview, before adding his views on a potential reform of the city’s most famous band.
During an interview on Canadian radio show Q with Tom Power, The 1975 vocalist took aim at the Gallaghers, calling them out for ‘marding’ over an argument.
He said: “Can you imagine being in potentially - right now, still - the coolest band in the world and not doing it because you’re in a mard with your brother?”
And he didn’t stop there either, adding: “I can deal with them dressing like they’re in their twenties when they’re in their fifties, but acting like they’re in their twenties? They need to grow up.”
In Matty’s view, ‘Liam isn’t the problem’, or at least he doesn’t think he is. In the clip, the outspoken star - son of Denise Welch and Tim Healy - wasn’t all negative about the band, adding that their first two albums were ‘both in the top ten best albums of all time’.
“They’re like men of the people and they’re sitting around in Little Venice and Highgate crying over an argument with their brother,” Matty continued. “Grow up, headline Glastonbury, have a good time, have a laugh.”
His rant continued, taking a dig at the brothers solo careers, commenting: “There’s not one person going to a High Flying Birds gig or a Liam Gallagher gig that would not rather be at an Oasis gig.
“Do me a favour, get back together, stop messing around. That is my public service announcement for today.”
The interview was shared on the radio show yesterday (February 2), just one day after The 1975 played a sold out charity gig at Manchester’s Gorilla, raising money for Warchild. It follows the band’s At Their Very Best tour, where they played the AO Arena in January, with Matty eating a chunk of raw meat on stage before bringing out Charlie XCX as a special guest.
