Noel Gallgher may think he’s the king of the killer putdown. He’s delivered enough to his little brother Liam over the years.
But The 1975’s frontman Matty Healy has just delivered a stinging comeback to the former Oasis star, after Noel recently branded him a ‘slack-jawed f**kwit’. Healy was musing over the much-discussed but increasingly unlikely Oasis reunion.
In an interview with Canadian broadcaster CBC’s Q With Tom Power, he said the brothers should ‘stop marding’ and simply get on with reforming the band. “What are Oasis doing?” Healy said. “Can you imagine being in potentially, right now, still the coolest band in the world and not doing it because you’re in a mard with your brother?”

However, when Noel got wind of the comments, he was compelled to say: “Oh, that slack-jawed f***wit… He needs to get over how shit his band is and split up.” Healy has now had his opportunity to respond.
During a low-key acoustic show in Dublin this week, he referred to the spat. “Noel Gallagher called me a slack-jawed f**kwit,” he said, to a roar from the crowd. “We love Noel Gallagher. The difference between me and Noel is I do a series of interviews to promote an album, whereas he does an album to promote a series of interviews.”
The ball is now in Noel’s court, though Healy may double down during their headline performance at Parklife this weekend. His band play the festival’s main stage on Sunday night, closing out the 2023 event.
Gallagher, meanwhile, will be playing a headline set at Wythenshawe Park on August 26, with his band the High Flying Birds, with support from Future Islands and Primal Scream. The Manchester Evening News recently sat down with Noel, and you can read what he said about Liam and AI here…
