Going to the pub for a drink on Christmas Day used to be a tradition but it's a custom that isn't as popular as it used to be. A number of pubs don't even bother opening on December 25.
But for some people, who are on their own, it's a salvation, and for others it's a chance to escape the family fuss over cooking the turkey. UK chain Wetherspoon will be opening most of its pubs, including those across Nottinghamshire, but not all.
Those that are opening to bring a touch of festive cheers to customers will be serving (mostly) from 11am until 3pm, although some like The Sir John Arderne in Newark are open from 10am. It will be drinks only, however, so don't go looking for an all-day breakfast.
