The passing of Queen Elizabeth II means, of course, the UK has a new King — Charles III.
Officially, he will be known as Charles III, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith. However, that is just one of many titles Charles is set to inherit following the sad passing of his mother.
As Her Majesty was head of the Commonwealth, she was also the head of state in 14 nations. King Charles is set to inherit those titles, too.
He has not formally been proclaimed as King as of Friday afternoon, but this ceremony will take place at 10am on Saturday. For the first time in history, it will be televised.
Once he has been formally proclaimed as King, the nation will standstill to witness his mother’s funeral. After the mourning period has finished, he will be able to plan a formal coronation ceremony.
For the moment, her are the head of state titles he is set to inherit from across the Commonwealth which his mother held:
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King of Antigua and Barbuda and of His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God King of Australia and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and of His other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King of Belize and of His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and His other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Grenada and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of Jamaica and of His other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth.
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King of New Zealand and His Other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
Charles III, King of Papua New Guinea and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.
Charles the Third by the Grace of God of Saint Christopher and Nevis Queen, Head of the Commonwealth.
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King of St Lucia and of His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King of St Vincent and the Grenadines and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.
Charles the Third by the Grace of God, King of Solomon Islands and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God King of Tuvalu and of His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.
However, it is not yet confirmed how many countries in the Commonwealth will adopt Charles as head of state. Many nations which adopted the Queen did so through statute, so it may require a similar process to take place again.
