There’s no better snack in the world than freshly-baked cookies. Given just how many varieties of cookies there are, there’s always going to be something for everyone no matter what they like.
That being said, there are a handful of cookies that are clearly a cut above the rest. The best of the best, if you will. For one reason or another, these cookies have become commonplace in our lives, either through tradition or just plain and simple tastiness.
Except you, oatmeal raisin. You are a terrible excuse for a cookie and I’m not afraid to say it.
Without further ado, here are the 15 best types of cookies!
15
Black and white
A New York City staple, black and white cookies are a chocolate and vanilla lovers dream. Their iconic look is always a welcome sight on any cookie platter.
14
Crinkle
Crinkle cookies are easy to make and taste delicious as well. As long as you don’t mind getting powdered sugar on your fingers as you eat them, you can’t go wrong with these cookies.
13
Lofthouse
Either you absolutely love Lofthouse cookies or you find them an affront to confectionery. Lofthouse cookies are the rich, cakey cookies covered in frosting that you find at the supermarket. For me, I can enjoy one or two before the sugar overload gets to me, but your mileage may vary here.
12
Snickerdoodle
These cinnamon sugar cookies are best served warm to get the most out of their fluffy texture and sweet taste. If you haven’t had a soft snickerdoodle cookie fresh out of the oven, you haven’t lived.
11
Slice and bake
Another iconic store-bought cookie, slice and bakes are the easiest cookie to make — you just put them in the oven and boom, done! — yet still taste great. Simplistic, but good all the same.
10
Lemon
Sometimes you want to take a break from the chocolates and the cinnamons of the cookie world. Lemon cookies provide that and more, with the slight hint of citrus in a soft baked form that makes for a perfect light snack on any given day.
9
Shortbread
These biscuit-like cookies pair great with a cup of hot coffee or chocolate due to their crumbly texture and buttery flavor. Or they can be eaten alone as a nice filling treat!
8
Sugar
As basic of a cookie as they come, but sugar cookies rarely miss. Plus, the versatility of sugar cookies cannot be understated here either, as they can be plain or decorated with icing, fondant, sprinkles and more.
7
Gingerbread
Gingerbread cookies are not only good to eat, but they are often made into wonderful shapes — like people! — or are used to construct fun houses around the holiday season. While I might not be great at decorating the gingerbread houses I make every winter, they still taste delightful all the same.
6
Butter
Like sugar cookies, butter cookies may be simplistic but they’ve got a lot of heart. Personally, I prefer butter cookies over sugar cookies because I can eat more without feeling overloaded with sugar, but to each their own!
5
Thumbprint
Thumbprint cookies come in many shapes and sizes, but my personal favorites are a chocolate chip cookie base with a chocolate center. They take more work than your average cookie, but are so worth it. Definitely an underrated cookie in my book.
4
Peanut butter
The best peanut butter cookies crumble and melt in your mouth with how soft they are. A rich cookie, to be sure, but one that keeps you coming back for more.
3
M&M
The addition of M&Ms to a cookie brings a delightful crunch to the table. And not only that, you can truly get wild with the multiple variations of M&Ms there are that’ll leave you wanting to make these cookies over and over again.
2
Chocolate chip
Not much beats a good, old fashioned chocolate chip cookie. Let’s be real, chocolate chips and cookies were made for one another. Personally, I’m a soft chocolate chip cookie fan but all chocolate chip cookies are good cookies.
1
Peanut butter blossom
The holy grail of cookies! Peanut butter blossoms are the perfect cookie. Soft and chewy with a peanut butter base and an added Hershey Kiss on top for a wonderful chocolate finish. Seriously, chocolate and peanut butter are a glorious combination and I am very sorry if your taste buds don’t agree.
