The dust of the 2023 NFL franchise tag deadline has settled.
Daniel Jones got paid by the New York Giants. The Seattle Seahawks? They decided to spend a bunch of money to retain Geno Smith. And before that, the New Orleans Saints grabbed Derek Carr to start at QB.
Which means the quarterback market is, uh, drying up quickly.
At this point, many of the teams looking for a starter at the most important position in the game will be focusing on the draft in the hopes they’ll find their QB of the future.
But for teams like the New York Jets? It’s nerve-wracking.
Let’ run through the notable names who are left:
1
Aaron Rodgers (?)
The question mark is justified. Will he retire? Will he decide to stay in Green Bay? Will he want out and maybe join the Jets, who reportedly flew out to visit him? So his availability is a question.
The New York Jets have flown on Woody Johnson’s private plane to California to meet with Aaron Rodgers in person per sources. They land soon. (also reported by @RobDemovsky @DanGrazianoESPN)
The Green Bay Packers have given New York permission to speak with Rodgers.— Dianna Russini (@diannaESPN) March 7, 2023
2
Lamar Jackson
It’ll be curious to see how his situation plays out. Will a team swoop in and pay the expensive price for his services?
3
Jimmy Garoppolo
Not the worst option out there. Likely a consolation prize if Rodgers and Jackson are out.
4
Marcus Mariota
There were moments last season where he looked decent without a lot of help around him. But … eh.
5
Baker Mayfield
Was what we saw in his brief Rams tenure enough to entice a team to start him?
6
Teddy Bridgewater
He’d join his sixth team in the league if he moves on from Miami.
7
Carson Wentz
Sigh.
8
Taylor Heinicke
There have been moments where he’s looked good!
9
Mike White
Same with him!
10
Jacoby Brissett
He had a pretty good stretch for the Browns last season.
11
Drew Lock
There might be a team out there that wants to give him a shot as a starter.
12
Gardner Minshew
We’ve seen flashes of starter-level talent here and there.
13
Tom Brady (?????)
Look, he’s retired. Officially, too. But with rumors swirling about his availability, it made us all wonder if he’s going to unretire yet again.
Brady did put that to rest on Tuesday. But we have to list him here with lots of question marks anyway.
