The 12 most pinned homemade Halloween decorations on Pinterest for you to try

Halloween lovers decorate their homes for the spooky season earlier and earlier. With October almost upon us, now is the perfect time to put your imagination into action.

Home design enthusiasts might want to start thinking about black and orange colour palettes and cobweb furnishings. With 13,800 Pinterest searches for ‘Halloween decorations’ already it seems they already have - but which style to follow?

Lighting retail specialists, Festive Lights, have analysed Pinterest data to find out the most popular Halloween decorations designs that are apparently inspiring the world this year.

Before you start, the Festive Lights team has also provided five expert tips on how to perfectly hang your Halloween decorations and lights whether it’s your first time decorating, or you have experience in the craft.

Visual merchandiser at Festive Lights, Paula Boston, said: "Take one-time measurements of your home so you know how many Halloween lights you'll need, there’s nothing worse than hanging some lights or decorations and realising they only cover half of the intended space!"

Decide on where to place your lights:

If you’re not using battery-powered lights, you need to consider where you have an accessible outlet (or a long extension cord). You can drape Halloween lights anywhere and they'll make the space look spooky, so make sure you choose a reachable space - such as round a ledge, mirror, or bannister.

Safety matters:

Always consider safety when hanging any lights or decorations around your home exterior. Ensure all extension cords are in good condition and that lights are placed in out-of-the-way but accessible locations - such as around doorways and windows.

If placing the lights up high on a ceiling, grab a helping hand to assist while you hang the lights. Or you can invest in a light-hanging pole for a more convenient option.

Support your props:

There are many ghosts, zombies, and witches to choose from when picking your Halloween decorations, but it’s best to choose items that aren’t too heavy if you’re hanging them around the house.

A fishing line will help to support the extra weight, as they are strong, and invisible to the eye for spooky effects.

Use tape as you go:

Use small pieces of tape between each bulb as you go. Don't use too much to have these connecting points too visible though. Double-sided tape works great for adhering decorations to windows or your front door, creating a more streamlined look.
