Manchester United fans have welcomed the news that Erik ten Hag is hoping to sign a new number one goalkeeper this summer to replace David de Gea.
MEN Sport understands the Reds see it as essential to sign a new first choice goalkeeper amid the uncertainty surrounding De Gea's future. The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the month and has yet to extend.
United are in negotiations with De Gea over a new deal but he with no guarantees that he would be first choice. Speaking to The Times in May, the Dutchman said: "I will not say he'll always be my No.1 because in a club like Man United there must be competition in all positions. You can’t do it with 11 players. "It is impossible. You need double positions."

Supporters had aired concerns over De Gea remaining first choice towards the end of the season with the general consensus being he would be more suited as a back-up option next year. And, according to fans on Twitter, news of a first choice 'keeper being targeted is cause for celebration.
Who United will target for their number one jersey is at this stage unclear. Porto's Diogo Costa and Inter's Andre Onana have both been linked with a switch to Old Trafford. Onana played under Ten Hag at Ajax.
David Raya has also been touted as an option but the Manchester Evening News understands Tottenham Hotspur are the team who will make a move for him. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have declared they will try to sign United 'keeper Dean Henderson permanently.
