‘That’s karma’ - Jamie Carragher blasts Newcastle United for time-wasting tactics

Jamie Carragher has slammed Newcastle United for “time-wasting” against Liverpool last night. Despite taking a first-half lead, Liverpool overturned the deficit and scored a 98th-minute winner to devastate the Magpies.

However, the game was not without any controversy. Record signing Alexander Isak bagged a superb debut goal but was denied a brace to make it 2-0 by a dubious offside call. Doubling the advantage would have given Liverpool a mountain to climb but VAR judged the Swedish international to have overstepped the defender.

Then, after awarding five minutes of stoppage time, referee Andre Marriner somehow allowed play to continue until the 98th minute. Fabio Carvalho sent Anfield into raptures in the dying embers as Newcastle players collapsed to the floor in dismay.

After the game, former Reds defender Carragher added salt to Toon supporters’ wounds by claiming their players got exactly what they deserved. Jurgen Klopp also called for punishment to those sides found guilty of running down the clock.

“That’s Karma that for all the time wasting,” Carragher tweeted. “Harvey Elliott outstanding and a brilliant cameo again from Carvalho!”

Newcastle fans were enraged by the accusation of foul play on social media. Many were quick to point out Isak’s second “goal” that was chalked off for offside.
