'Thanks Toney' - Arsenal fans in frenzy as Wolves give them huge chance of Premier League title

Arsenal will be top of the Premier League on Christmas Day for the first time since the 2007/08 season under Arsene Wenger after Manchester City fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

The Gunners are two points clear of the current champions with a game in hand and will be guaranteed to be at the top of the table when domestic football returns on Boxing Day following the World Cup.. The defeat was City's second of the season and means Mikel Arteta's side could end the first half of the season five points clear with victory over Wolves tonight.

Ivan Toney responded to his England World Cup squad exclusion in the perfect way with a double at the Etihad Stadium, including a dramatic 98th minute winner for the Bees to seal Arsenal's position as league leaders for the next month.

As mentioned before, the last time the Gunners found themselves top of the Premier League table was in 2007. Whilst there were four more games played, Wenger's side won 13 of their 18 games before going to finish third on 83 points as Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United lifted the title on the final day of the season.

Now, under Arteta, Arsenal have suffered one league game all season and could put themselves into an ideal situation with victory in the West Midlands tonight. But with their fate at the top of the table sealed for over the festive period, Arsenal supporters have urged their side to extend their lead later on, with one claiming Christmas had come early.

Here's what they have said...

@dave_tunde: We must now go 5 points ahead! We must

@Beauvandenberg1: Cannot get complacent today though. Need the 3 points after Brighton.

@JasonCoster5: What a time to be alive boys!

@bonilebone: This is beyond our wildest dreams, WAHT A TIME TO BE A GOONER
