‘Thanks babe’: Even Sweden’s PM has been tweeting the wrong Liz Truss

A woman named Liz Trussell has been sending witty replies to a flurry of tweets accidentially sent to her instead of Britain’s new prime minister Liz Truss.

Ms Trussell has the Twitter account ‘liztruss’, which political leaders and members of the public have mistakenly used to either congratulate or criticise the new Tory leader following her victory on Monday. Ms Truss has the Twitter handle ‘trussliz’.

Sweden’s prime minister Magdalena Andersson posted a congratulatory tweet to whom she thought was the new Tory leader on Monday.

Ms Trussell replied to the tweet, saying: “Looking forward to a visit soon! Get the meatballs ready.”

Ms Andersson’s tweet has since been corrected, but she is far from the only person to make the mistake - she even cheekily tagged the Royal Family Twitter account, writing: “I’m available tomorrow”.

On Tuesday she posted: “Just getting ready to head up to Balmoral! Looking forward to meeting the Corgis”.

Boris Johnson and Ms Truss will travel to Balmoral, in Aberdeenshire, on Tuesday morning where Mr Johnson will offer his resignation to the Queen and she will appoint Ms Truss as Prime Minister - the third female to hold office in history - before returning to to London.
