The news was met by an outpouring of sympathy from customers on its own post and one shared on local Facebook Page, Altrincham HQ, which said owners "should be extremely proud to have a business that was always busy for 12 years."
Many customers and locals flooded the comments with well wishes, while some expressed confusion over how a popular and busy chip shop be closing its doors. One person on Facebook wrote: "This is absolutely heartbreaking so many valued eateries closing there doors. Due to hikes in all costs. Villages can’t survive. Help is required government sort this out!"
Another person spoke of the staff and said: "Really sad to see this when I drove past today. Loved their chips, but especially loved the breakfast they did. The ladies were always really nice, such a shame."
Others said is what their "favourite" place to eat and that it looked really business. Its the latest hospitality closure to hit the town, following the news that Mustard diner has ceased trading in January. However, Altrincham has just welcomed Hong Kong-inspired pub Harcourt, and will soon be home to hit London bakery Gail's.
In the comments on Facebook, others spoke about a lack of government support and expressed concern about the recent closures. One said: "No help from government. Said they would help small business with the electricity hikes and haven’t done."
Another wrote: "Is Altrincham going to have anything left to go to. They are doing up the streets but what's the point if there's nothing to visit Altrincham for."
While a further customer responded to the Kingfisher's post to offer their support for the future: "Tan you should be so proud of everything you’ve done there! You're a superstar! I’m so sorry it’s come to this. Go smash your next adventure like we all know you will! Sad day for Altrincham."
