Thailand travel update as covid rules are relaxed

After what has seemed like an eternity for some, trips abroad are now firmly back on the horizon.

All covid travel rules were drawn to a close in the UK in March, and many other nations have also eased restrictions in recent weeks and months. There are now dozens of countries people can travel to without being vaccinated or having to take a test.

After so much time at home, many of us are understandably keen to get away. And after months of some of the strictest travel rules, Thailand is now gearing up to return to some form of normality.

The South-East Asian nation is extremely popular with tourists from all over the world. And it will soon be even easier to visit the country.

From July 1, travellers will no longer be required to apply for Thailand Pass or have mandatory travel insurance to enter Thailand, the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced on Friday (June 17).

However, travellers will still have to show proof of vaccination - or a negative Covid-19 test result. Channel News Asia reports masks will be "recommended" but not compulsory in outdoor settings. Masks are still required indoors, but can be removed for activities such as eating and exercising.
