Thai Airways International (THAI) will sign a lease agreement for two Airbus A350-900 aircraft for use beginning from January next year, Suvadhana Sibunruang, THAI acting chief executive officer, said on Tuesday.
A letter of interest was signed for the two Airbus aircraft on June 27, and the new aircraft lease plan has now won approval by both the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, he said.
The national flag carrier will next get the aircraft lease agreement signed as soon as possible, Mr Suvadhana said.
"Since purchasing a new aircraft clearly isn't an option, as per the airline's rehabilitation plan, a lease is more of an ideal solution," he said.
An aircraft lease also makes it easier for THAI to manage risks associated with a crisis like the pandemic, he said.
