TG4 celebrate Australia Day with brilliant Alf Stewart tweet as Home and Away star

If you follow TG4 on Twitter, as thousands too, you may have noticed things are a little bit different today.

Mainly, a number of their tweets are upside down, as is their display picture, bio and some replies.

That's because today, January 26, is Australia Day.

Australia Day is the national day of the southern country, and marks the 1788 landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove and raising of the Union Flag by Arthur Phillip following days of exploration of Port Jackson in New South Wales.

So what better way for TG4 to celebrate it than with a picture of everyone's favourite Australian - Ray Meagher, aka Alf Stewart from Home and Away.

Naturally, the picture accompanied a tweet, with both being upside down, captioned: "beannachtaí ar na hÉireannaigh ar fad atá san Astráil #Australiaday" which translates as "Greetings to all the Irish in Australia!"

The veteran actor is in a Mayo GAA strip in the snap and there's a great story behind it.

Ahead of last year's All-Ireland final with Tyrone, Sarah McHugh, an Irish woman based in Oz, managed to grab a few of the stars of the soap, including the legendary Meagher, Shane Withington (John Palmer) and Lynne McGranger (Irene Roberts) and get them to throw their support behind the Connacht champions!

Unfortunately, in a story straight from Summer Bay, Mayo were once again defeated in the biggest day of the GAA calendar.

Perhaps the Mayo curse will make an appearance Down Under in future episodes.
