A Texas woman has been arrested and taken into custody after she reportedly disciplined a little girl by duct-taping the child's mouth shut and locking her into a dog cage under her Christmas tree, officials say.
Harris County resident Rose Marie Anderson was attempting to "discipline" the child, whom she is allegedly related to, "for her behavior at school," KTRK-TV reported.
The incident, which allegedly occurred in a Houston home on Dec. 13, saw 55-year-old Anderson allegedly duct-tape the 7-year-old girl's mouth shut.
Anderson then reportedly restrained the child's arms using zip ties and locked her into a dog cage by her Christmas tree. Further reports allege that Anderson kicked the cage while the child was locked inside of it.
The child was allegedly denied access to food and water while in the cage and denied access to a bathroom. The girl urinated on herself while constrained.
Anderson is identified as the child's sole caretaker in court documents obtained by KPRC-TV. She appeared before a Harris County magistrate on Sunday.
Anderson is being held at the Harris County Jail on $40,000 bond.
