Texas-based studio Ruckus Games successfully raised $19 million in a new funding round led by Krafton that would go towards work on its debut project.

The developer's first game is described as a roster-based co-op shooter but not much other information has been shared about it. Ruckus Games previously raised $5.5 million in seed funding in September 2022 via Transcend Fund.

Latest Funding Round

The latest crowdfunding round was also contributed to by Bitkraft Ventures, Transcend, and Hypergryph. The previous funding round for Ruckus Games went on to finance the 14-people team's development of a prototype over a year.

The early playtests for the studio's currently unnamed title are set to be held sometime this winter.

Ruckus Games was originally founded in 2021 by Gearbox and Riot veterans and is headed by CEO Paul Sage. The latter had formerly been the creative director of Borderlands 3.

Sage said that having Krafton and Hypergryph contribute to the latest funding round was just "amazing."

He added that the two companies were not only able to provide global reach but also brought a unique perspective to the Texas-based studio, according to Games Industry.

Krafton head of corporate development Maria Park noted that the company believes in the future of co-op gaming in the industry.

She added that the Ruckus Games team was able to demonstrate amazing progress even if it only had a small team of developers and had little time.

Park noted that Ruckus Games was able to create a game that is just so on-trend and had beautiful stylish action and humor. She argued that it not only entertains its audience but also connects gamers in memorable ways.

Working on Its Debut Game

Ruckus Games' debut title is generally still being kept a mystery but there are some details about it that have been shared. These include things like the game being a third-person, cooperative, session-based RPG shooter, Venture Beat said.

It was also noted that the Texas-based studio's first game will have a unique blend of style, humor, and explosive action. It will supposedly focus on "suburban invasion," which can still mean a lot of different things.

In a press release, Sage said that they want to help bring games to the industry that will be fun to play for gamers from the moment they are released.

He added that these are joyous and a good way to spend your time as you share your experiences with other people, according to Gematsu.
