Authorities in Cook County, Texas, are currently dealing with the aftermath of a devastating tornado that struck the region. The sheriff of Cook County, Texas, Sheriff Ray Sappington, provided an update on the situation, revealing that the county is still in search and rescue mode.

As of now, there have been five confirmed fatalities, including three adults and two juveniles, with the possibility of the death toll rising. The damage caused by the tornado is extensive, with numerous buildings and properties affected.

The tornado hit the southern part of Cook County and the northern part of Denton County. It impacted a mobile home park as well as a travel center located off I-35, where approximately 60 to 80 people sought shelter from the storm. Fortunately, no fatalities occurred at the travel center, but the surrounding areas suffered significant damage.

In addition to the mobile home park and travel center, the tornado also caused damage at a state park on Lake Ray Roberts, flipping over trailers and causing tree damage. However, there were no significant injuries reported at the state park.

Sheriff Sappington mentioned that the tornado's path spanned about 45 miles in length, causing damage along its route. While there were reports of damage in Grayson County, east of Cook County, the extent of the impact in that area remains unclear.

The sheriff expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from surrounding counties, cities, fire departments, and law enforcement agencies. State resources have been deployed to assist with search and rescue efforts, and the response from the community has been commendable.

Authorities are continuing their search and rescue operations, with a focus on locating any missing individuals and providing assistance to those affected by the tornado. The community is coming together to support one another during this challenging time.
