A tragic incident unfolded in Dallas when a Texas man, identified as a 31-year-old with two previous DWI convictions, struck and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle. The driver, Juan Morgan Munoz, was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the accident, which occurred early Saturday morning.
Munoz, who was on probation for a prior DWI offense, has been charged with felony DWI and a collision involving death. Following the fatal incident, he called 911 approximately half an hour later and claimed he was driving to his place of employment at a Maaco Auto Body Shop.
Upon being stopped by authorities in the auto shop parking lot, officers made a disturbing discovery inside Munoz's vehicle. They found an arm on the front passenger seat, along with blood, and observed damage to the windshield. Munoz exhibited signs of intoxication, including glassy/watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong smell of alcohol.
During a field sobriety test, Munoz failed to demonstrate sobriety and subsequently recorded a blood alcohol level of .179, which is more than twice the legal limit. He also disclosed to detention officers that he had cocaine in his system. The victim of the tragic incident has not yet been publicly identified.
Records indicate that Munoz had previously pleaded guilty to a DWI charge in New Hampshire in 2018, for which he paid a fine. In a separate incident last year in Fort Worth, he was arrested for DWI, pleaded guilty, and received a sentence of 2 years probation.
This latest development underscores the dangers of driving under the influence and the devastating consequences that can result from such reckless behavior. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident as the community mourns the loss of the pedestrian who tragically lost their life.
