A Texas man is under investigation after a viral TikTok video showed him using a 3-month-old baby to wipe snow off his car during a winter storm.
Last week, a severe winter storm blanketed Southeast Texas in snow, an unusual weather event for the region.
Amid the chaos, a 25-year-old man from Port Arthur filmed himself using an infant as a makeshift snow brush for his car's windshield, allegedly as part of a stunt to gain attention on TikTok, 12 News Now reported.
Videos of parents using children as props in pranks have circulated online before, but this incident drew outrage and caught the attention of law enforcement and CPS given the age of the baby.
The Port Arthur Police Department has confirmed that they are working with CPS to investigate the incident, with child endangerment charges likely to follow.
Officers performed a welfare check on the child shortly after becoming aware of the video, confirming the baby was unharmed. The man was reportedly accompanied by two women during the stunt, one of whom is believed to be the infant's mother.
The video, since removed from TikTok, was filmed at the O.W. Collins Elderly Apartments in Port Arthur. Police Chief Tim Duriso condemned the act as a reckless pursuit of social media fame.
"It's a sad situation. I know a lot of people go to social media and they are looking for clicks... but this is not a a deal where you should put a baby on the windshield," Duriso said.
Authorities are expected to issue an arrest warrant for the man through the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office as early as next week.
Investigators are reviewing the man's criminal history and gathering evidence to proceed with charges. CPS has opened an investigation into the child's welfare but has not disclosed any additional details.
It is unclear whether the other adults present will face legal consequences.
