Texas Lieutenant Governor urges National Guard deployment to secure border

Donald Trump urges states to send National Guard members to Texas.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has requested support from other states in the form of National Guard members to help secure the state's southern border amid rising concerns over illegal immigration. The request comes as President Joe Biden's administration faces criticism for its handling of border security. Lt. Governor Dan Patrick expressed confidence that the Biden administration would not confront law enforcement or the National Guard at the border, highlighting that such a move would be a mistake.

Patrick emphasized that the Texas government is not seeking a confrontation but rather urging the Biden administration to do its job in protecting the lives of Texans and Americans and securing the borders. He criticized the administration's policies, stating that they are directly responsible for the deaths caused by the smuggling of fentanyl, murders committed by MS-13 gang members, and the loss of law enforcement officers on duty due to illegal border crossings.

Regarding the support from other states, Lt. Governor Patrick stated that Texas welcomes any help it can get. He mentioned the unity among Republican governors, lieutenant governors, and senators who are willing to assist Texas in its mission to protect the country. Patrick emphasized the importance of organized efforts and collaboration with other states' National Guard units to ensure an effective response.

As for the role of the National Guard, Lt. Governor Patrick highlighted the extensive work needed along the Texas border, which spans over 1,250 miles. He stated that there are numerous tasks to be carried out, and the National Guard can contribute in various ways. However, he reiterated that Texas is fully capable of securing the border without the intervention of the federal government if President Biden allows them to do so.

Patrick also defended the Border Patrol officials, emphasizing their collaboration with state authorities in their daily operations. He criticized President Biden for attempting to create a rift between Border Patrol and the state of Texas, questioning the motive behind such actions.

In conclusion, the request for National Guard support by Texas Governor Greg Abbott underscores the ongoing challenges the state faces in securing its southern border. Lt. Governor Dan Patrick stressed the importance of protecting American lives and criticized the Biden administration's policies. While Texas welcomes the assistance of other states, Patrick highlighted the need for organized efforts and collaboration to ensure an effective response.
