A company has sparked outrage after allegedly asking for only white candidates to apply for jobs.
Arthur Grand Technologies, based in Virginia in the south east of the US, has been criticised after posting a job advert on Tuesday allegedly asking for "white candidates" to apply for its business analyst role in its Salesforce and insurance claims team in Dallas, Texas.
The company, which was founded in 2012, focuses on developing computer software and packaging, allegedly posted the job advert on job site Indeed.
The job post states: "Only Born US Citizens [White] who are local within 60 miles from Dallas, TX [Don't share with candidates]."
The job application was posted onto Reddit where it attracted thousands of complaints from stunned users who were left horrified at the company's alleged job post.
One user said: "Not surprising - specially for a role in the white male dominated insurance industry."
Another added: "The south is still segregated to a degree. Seems like business as usual for down there, to me."
According to the organisation, the post was published by a former employee who took an existing post and added the line to the application.
However, according to one user on Reddit, a number of previous job articles allegedly show similar job requirements stating "Only US born citizens (white)."
Arthur Grand Technologies has since posted a statement online claiming the post had nothing to do with them.
It said: "This job posting was neither authorised nor posted by Arthur Grand or its employees.
"A former employee took an existing posting and added discriminatory language, then reposted it through his own account.
"The moment this was brought to our attention, we worked with the job portal to remove this offensive job posting. Necessary legal action has been initiated against the job poster.
"Arthur Grand is a minority-owned company that has been offering IT and staffing services since 2012 and we pride ourselves on the diversity of our staff and leadership.
"It is the policy of Arthur Grand that all employees and applicants for employment are afforded equal opportunity without regard to race, colour, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, religion, or non-job-related disability.
"All employment decisions are based on the individual’s qualifications.
"We are very clear on this update and to avoid further chaos we request not raise any of the assumption comments or questions further. Thanks for the understanding."
Reddit users have criticised the company's defence with the company stating in a previous post an ex junior member of staff was responsible for the post.
Many believe the former worker is being made a "scapegoat."
One user said: "In a different post they claimed it was a new junior hiring rep who posted it and that that person has been terminated.
"I wonder if the junior recruiter was told to make the posting but didn't realise he/she was supposed to remove that part before posting it. In that case, the junior recruiter is just a scapegoat."
