Texas crash: Car careers off bridge killing woman with children also critical in smash

One woman has died and four children have been left critically injured after a car flipped and crashed off a bridge.

The crash happened in La Marque, Texas, US, at around 11.30pm on Monday night after the vehicle flipped multiple times before smashing and landing on the roadway below the bridge.

The driver, who is reportedly in her 20s, died at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.

Four children under six-years-old were rushed to a nearby hospital where they remain in a critical condition - with police unsure if any of the passengers were wearing seatbelt.

The investigation remains ongoing with Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, who are working to determine what caused the crash.

Police closed the road for several hours during the investigation but it has now opened.

The crash comes just days after Dad-of-two Casey Rivara was killed while helping a family of ducks cross the road in Rocklin, California on Friday evening.

The 41-year-old had parked his car at the side of a road to usher a group of ducklings across the intersection when he was suddenly crashed into by a 17-year-old female driver, according to police.

Casey tragically died at the scene as his children Sophia and James, aged 11 and 6, watched the tragic accident unfold.

The driver has not been charged but is talking to police.

His heartbroken widow Angel Chow paid tribute to her husband in a statement, she wrote: "We have been deeply touched by the overwhelming love and support we've received for Casey Rivara and our family in these past few days.

"We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for the kind messages and gestures of kindness.

"It's truly humbling to hear how Casey has positively impacted your lives, and we're extremely grateful for that."

Devastated aunt Tracey Rivara created a GoFundMe page to raise money for Casey's widow, Angel, which has already raised more than $63,000.

She paid tribute to her nephew, writing: "Casey was the kindest, most amazing husband and father. Even his last act in this world was a sign of his compassion.

"The family is trying to figure out how to recover and keep going after this immense loss.

"If you would like to express your love and support for Angel and her family, we ask that you please contribute here in lieu of flowers, meals, and other acts of kindness."

A 12-year-old witness spotted the touching moment the dad successfully herded the ducks away from danger.

“He got out of the car and was shooing the ducks and everyone was clapping because he was being really nice," William Wimsatt told 3KCRA.
