Several Texas communities experienced significant rainfall over a 48-hour period due to Tropical Storm Alberto, with some areas receiving nearly three times their average June rainfall. The National Weather Service office in Corpus Christi reported that Rockport, Texas, received 9.97 inches of rain, far exceeding its June average of 3.66 inches. Similarly, Alice, Texas, received 6.57 inches of rain, almost triple its June average of 2.32 inches.
Other notable rainfall totals in Texas included 8.30 inches in Fulton, 7.46 inches in Woodsboro, 7.00 inches in Sinton, 5.37 inches in Kingsville, and 5.09 inches in Corpus Christi. While South Texas can expect scattered thunderstorms on Friday, the rainfall amounts are predicted to be below 1 inch, reducing the flooding threat that persists from the heavy rain over the past two days.
Coastal flood alerts are in effect for coastal Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi due to high water levels caused by strong winds. The weather service office for Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley warned of water levels ranging from 2.5 to 2.75 feet above normal conditions, with a continued long period swell and slightly higher predicted tides overnight into Friday morning.
